While there are a lot of people who despise spiders, both harmless and dangerous, they are bound to become a pest issue at some point. For those residing in Indianapolis you should be on the lookout for three different spiders that frequent the area regularly. Those spiders are:
- The Brown Recluse
- The Wolf Spider
- The Yellow Garden Spider
The brown recluse is a poisonous spider and should be exterminated by a professional spider control technician if possible. You don’t want to risk getting bitten by a brown recluse. They are typically brown in color and stay in dark places which is why they derived the name brown recluse. Many times Indianapolis residents will call us regarding brown recluses they found in the shed or a woodpile. They can enter homes however it isn’t often that you will come across one inside.
You can identify the brown recluse by the violin markings on their back. A dark spot that appears to be a violin. If bitten by a brown recluse you can expect the bite to form an open lesion and suffer certain symptoms including fever, sore joints and muscles, nausea and vomiting. If you do get bit you should seek medical attention immediately.
Wolf spiders appear rather scary but shouldn’t be feared. While they can bite it isn’t often intentional and it can be painful but wolf spider bites are harmless to humans. They are typically 4 inches big which includes their leg span. They have bristles on their body and legs and is often how we identify them.
Yellow Garden Spider
This spider is a common garden spider spotted in many Indianapolis gardens. Their webs are of a zig-zag shape and they eat insects that flock to the flowers. They are often easy to identify because of their yellow and black stripes. They are harmless spiders and will not harm you or your pets but rather help your garden by eating damaging pests.
